Being proud is having confidence about yourself, what you have and what you can become. That is what it is to be proud according to Joseph Malaluan, one of Hyundai’s Proud of My Accent (PoMA) video contest grand prize winners.
In the contest, 25 Hyundai Accent owners shared their bright and memorable experiences with their cars and the splendor of their cultural heritage through a short video. The contest mechanics set on the idea that Hyundai Accent owners can be proud of their car as well as their heritage.
Joseph’s video entry showed off his Accent along the steep and winding road to Monte Maria Shrine in the province of Batangas. “Ala eh. Mantakin mo, iniahon pa namin dine sa Monte Maria”, Joseph exclaimed in his distinguishably Batangueño accent catching the attention of viewers and contest judges.
Joseph works as a software engineer and a professor. His network of family, friends, and students gave him the boost to get more votes bringing him to the top of the charts.
On the other hand, Joseph believes that winning the prize is just timely because they had been affected by the ashfall from the Taal volcano eruption.
A week after their volunteer efforts, Joseph learned that they were one of the three grand prize winners of the PoMA contest.
Recounting the moments that led him to win the prize, Joseph talked about how he learned about the promo, until he was announced as one of the grand winners, “Nabasa ko lang ang Proud of My Accent na video contest sa Facebook page kasi madalas talaga nag-follow ako sa Hyundai page kasi nandoon ang mga updates at mga promos na sinusubay-bayan namin”.
“Late night na iyon, nagulat ako nung sumigaw yung asawa ko, tapos sabi niya, “Daddy nanalo tayo!”. Nung una hindi ako makapaniwala...halos di kami makatulog at mag-damag naming pinag-usapan”, said Joseph about winning the Php150,000 grand prize.
Joseph brags about the convenience the fuel-efficient car gives to his daily drives—when bringing his children to school or going to his clients from Batangas to Manila, and all the more that it gave him a stake at winning something that would be very much useful.
Joseph evidently brims with passion and confidence in his profession, family life, and community involvement—receiving a boost of inspiration and at the same time being an inspiration to others like fuel to a furnace helping each other ignite endless aspirations.
Joseph Malaluan is definitely a proud owner of the Hyundai Accent and part of the People of Hyundai.
